Aidipsos (or Edipsos or simply Αιδηψός in Greek) is the most popular spa and wellness town in Greece. This cute little town is located in the northernmost tip of Evia and is connected to the mainland by ferry from Arkitsa or by road from Chalkida, the capital of the island.
The mineral bath facilities are the largest and most modern in Greece, including indoor and outdoor pools, whirlpool baths and hydro-massage. People like Aristotle Onassis, Maria Callas, Winston Churchill, Greta Garbo, Omar Sharif are some of the few celebrities that have enjoyed the baths’ timeless benefits for years.
The mineral springs of Aidipsos have healing properties and they have been mentioned in scripts of Plutarch, Aristotle and Strabon, as the “Herculian Thermae”. According to an ancient Greek myth, goddess Athena asked her brother Hephaestus to create the Aidipsos hot springs so that her favored hero Hercules could rest after each of his labours.
The area has more than 60 springs with various temperatures ranging from 34 to 71.2 degrees Celsius, all rich in several minerals and micro-elements. Throughout the several public and private spa centers and pools, you can find relief from chronic ailments and disorders such as articulation-related problems, back and neck aches, rheumatisms, gynaecological and circulatory related problems, endocrinological cycle disorders (due to the revitalising effect of radon), and last but not least, beauty and rejuvenation.
